The emergent event and non-conformance
Technicians are performing standard overhaul work and come across something that's just not right. How are these unexpected discoveries resolved and, as importantly, how do you make sure all data is documented, dispositioned, approved for work and included in the unit work statement for billing?

Sometime defects are obvious, sometimes not. But in mission-critical MRO, not only is emergent work discovery and corrective action essential; a complete record of all activities must be maintained.

The Pertinence Suite Emergent Process Management (EPM) module is a configurable variable process workflow engine, fully compliant with AS9100 regulations, that enables efficient and effective disposition of any unplanned or non-standard product or process event. The system manages all anomalies including non-conformance and corrective action. From the time an anomaly is known, an emergent process document is launched, triggering a chain of actions that lead to resolution.

Depending on the severity of the event, EPM has the capability to constrain work until the issue is resolved. To lesson the time needed for documentation, the system will adjust data-entry requirements, yet won't allow omission of required data.

Although EPM was originally developed for quality professionals, the system's benefits are reaching far beyond the QA department. EPM today is being used to track developmental or temporary parts not yet certified as flight-worthy, managing unit or aircraft airworthiness certification and supporting the supply chain with source inspection documentation.

The Pertinence Suite Performance Tracker assembles information about the operation into a concise and easy to understand format, allowing the ability to see problems before they impact delivery.

Performance Tracker can also measure production metrics against KPIs and other operational goals. Users on the shop floor and in the executive can review important metrics like first pass yield, cycle time, non-conformances or other operational statistics over any period of time to ensure longer term goals are being met.
