Component & Large Scale Assembly - Engineering

Your Situation

A new component design is released from Engineering. The schedule is more compressed than usual and you have one day to author, approve and deploy plans. The solution is simplicity.

Intercim's answer

While most planning systems require complex authoring and approval cycles, the Pertinence Suite Process Planning module allows planners to quickly create and release plans when time-to-execution is critical. Using a collection of reusable pre-defined objects that include operations, steps, buyoffs, data collection and tools, the module accommodates the full range of ME and Quality planning functions. Pre-planning, modification planning and emergent planning enable efficient and accurate documentation of the as-executed record. As with all modules in the Suite, process planning is built on Microsoft's .NET architecture: the most advanced and flexible platform available.

Your Situation

Historical assembly data shows that when using components from either Supplier A or Supplier B exclusively, the results are consistently good. Data also shows that when mixing components from Supplier A with those from Supplier B, quality results are often poor.

When data was analyzed using the Pertinence Suite, it was discovered that all Supplier A components were on the high side of acceptable tolerance. Supplier B components, although within published specifications, were consistently on the low side. Mixing components from each supplier introduced tolerance stack-up that frequently resulted in failed acceptance tests. A rule was created in the Process Rules Discovery module that will alert operators if that combination of characteristics is repeated in the future.

Intercim's answer

With Best Operational Practices and historical data defined, Process Rules Discovery helps manufacturers determine the leanest, most robust and reliable process possible. Patented algorithms of the module extract from a process the combination of steps and results that produce both good and inferior quality. Rather than relying on subjective opinions or complex models, the module allows the user to make rapid decisions based on facts and historical lessons. In addition to early indication of quality issues, the Pertinence Suite encourages development and adoption of best practices throughout the operation, including new product introduction and continuous improvement teams.

Process Rules Discovery answers the WHY question, essential for continuous improvement. Why are two identically produced engine parts performing differently? Why isn't this production line able to produce a consistent yield? Why did the product fail when production tolerances were within range? Because the Suite has solved the complex issue of capturing relevant data and offering best practice corrective action, manufacturers have the ability to systematically avoid reproducing past mistakes while improving first pass yield.
